Recap|Box Score|NCAA Regionals
Nebraska Head Coach Rhonda Revelle
Q. Opening statement about the game?
A. I think it was a pretty clean game, I think we came out and were very relaxed and familiar with the team. I thought Leigh Ann set the tone really well. The actual pitching change was more strategic than anything,, she'd thrown about 17 or 18 innings against BYU over the past few games and they had never seen Peaches (James). We thought they were sitting back in the box, kind of waiting for her fastball, so we thought to come in and get Peaches curveball really going would be a nice strategy to go with, it worked really well. We were really opportunistic on offense, we didn't have a lot of base runners on but we were moving around and able to push a few across.
Q. What about the freshmen playing in their first Regional?
A. Well, the freshmen aren't freshmen anymore, they've got 62 games under their belt, they've had a full school year, so for all intensive purposes they're sophomores - we told them that about a week ago. I think they're game is still very similar and their teammates have done a good job of letting them know it's just another ball game. We got here Tuesday and looked at the field, the bases are 60 feet, there's grass n the outfield - lets go!
Nebraska Player Nicole Trimboli
Q. Anything different about playing here?
A. Not really, I think the field is really inviting, defensively and offensively, it's a beautiful field and it wasn't really nerve-racking or anything. Its great to come out here and play, it's a really nice facility.
Nebraska Player Leigh Ann Walker
Q. Any thoughts on the pitching change?
A. I agree with Rhonda, I think we've worked together long enough to where I knew she was going to do that, for the same reason. I was just going to pitch my game and trust that they made the decision for me to start for a reason. They knew how to adjust to me, they've seen me before. I give BYU a lot of credit, they've got a lot of gutsy players.
Brigham Young Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone
Q. Opening statement about the game?
A. Well, I felt like we were right where w needed to be, we made some very uncharacteristic defensive mistakes , but I think Maryon (DeWitt-Wallentine) threw and exceptional game and we didn't execute as well offensively, with our sacrifice bunt, but we'll bounce back. We're best when our backs re against the wall, and our backs are against the wall.
Q. Was this any different being a regional?
A. I don't think so, I don't think that's what seems to have phased them. They had a great practice yesterday. She's (Maryon DeWitt-Wallentine) been exceptional all year long and she just had a bad game, but she's been really great for us.
Brigham Young Player Lindsey Hodgen-Kelly
Q. Were you guys pretty able to adjust to (Leigh Ann)Walker today, was that just seeing her enough?
A. It's a matter of knowing what a pitcher relies on, she seemed to be using the change-up to get outs. You've got to be prepared and go after the first good pitch. When they brought James in I noticed that she got all of her outs on the change-up, and you really have to be ready for that.
