STANFORD, Calif. - Hofstra broke a 2-2 tie in the second inning and held on for a 4-2 win over BYU in the fourth game of the NCAA Softball Regional at Stanford's Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The loss eliminates BYU from the tournament, and they finish the season at 35-26. The Pride (37-25) advances to face Central Michigan on Friday at 11:00 a.m.

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first. Liz Smith singled to the shortstop, and Oli Keohohou's single up the middle scored the first run. Liz Boydston's RBI single scored another run for a 2-0 BYU lead after one half inning.

Hofstra answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Lisa Ciavardini singled to centerfield, then Amanda Hallaway hit her ninth home run of the year. Hallaway's shot cleared the 200-foot leftfield fence, and she is now just one homer short of tying the school record.

The Pride took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Mari Sheppard walked and a bunt single by Meaghan Almon was thrown wild, allowing the lead runner to advance. Sheppard then scored on a wild pitch for a 3-2 Hofstra lead.

The Pride added an insurance run in the sixth. A one-out single by pinch hitter Jeanine Maiolini started the rally. She was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Almon and advanced to third on Brousseau's single. Anderson's bloop double down the leftfield line scored Maiolini for the 4-2 Hofstra lead.

For Hofstra, Kelly Blois went the distance, scattering seven hits and two runs. She struck out three and walked one in improving to 13-10.

In the circle for the Cougars, Meghann Pricer started and went the first 1 1/3 inning. She gave up three runs on two hits to take the loss. She falls to 14-7. Maryon Wallentine came on in relief in the second inning and went the rest of the way. She gave up just one run on six hits.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hofstra's LaMeka Anderson picked up the 200th hit of her career when she beat out a grounder to short. She went 2-for-4 while Brousseau was 2-for-3.
