Two League Games For Women's Lacrosse To Close Season

April 25, 2002

Stanford, CA - With an even 7-7 overall record, the Cardinal closes up the regular season with a game on Saturday, April 27 at 2pm at California and a game at home the following Tuesday, April 30 at 7pm vs. UC Davis. Stanford goes into to these two league games with an undefeated 6-0 record in the MPLL, and has a 14-0 league record under head coach Michele Uhlfelder.

Last weekend the Cardinal split games on the East Coast: topping Boston College 13-10 for their first non-league win of the season and losing to No. 20 New Hampshire, 9-10. Stanford's leading scorer, freshman Kelsey Twist, dominated at attack, scoring 7 goals over the weekend and following freshman Claire Calzonetti's 7- goal performance the weekend before. Twist and Calzonetti are two of the four freshmen leading the team on the board this season: Twist has 28 goals and 9 assists for 37 total points and Calzonetti (tied for third) has 16 goals and 6 assists for 22 total points. Junior netminder Virginia Solomon has started all 14 games in goal for the Cardinal and notched 10 saves last weekend; she leads the club with 100 saves so far this season and a .481 save percentage.

Stanford came away with victories in its first meetings with both California and UC Davis this season. The Cardinal bested California 10-4 two weeks ago on Maloney Field and dropped Davis 17-5 to open the season on the road.
