Jackie Frank Named MPSF Goalie Of The Year

Woodland, Calif. - Junior goalie Jackie Frank (Long Beach, CA) has been selected as the 2002 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Water Polo Goalie of the Year by a vote of the MPSF head coaches as announced today. Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA) and Ellen Estes (Novato, CA) join Frank on the All-MPSF First Team, while Margie Dingeldein (Merced, CA) earned All-MPSF Second Team accolades.

Frank was named MVP of the 2002 NCAA Championships after recording a season-high 12 saves and allowing UCLA to score just once in the Bruins' 10 six-on-five opportunities in the championships match. She tallied 177 saves in goal for the Cardinal this season, averaging 7.08 per contest and allowed only 94 opponent goals. Frank was also named to the 2002 NCAA and MPSF Championship All-Tournament First Teams.

Villa, a sophomore driver, led the Cardinal in scoring with 60 goals and scored in 23 of Stanford's 25 games. She recorded four scores in Stanford's 13-3 win over Michigan in the national semifinal game. Villa also earned All-Tournament First Teams at this year's NCAA and MPSF Championships.

Estes netted 35 goals this year, tying Dingeldein as the second leading scorer for Stanford. The senior two-meter also was named to the NCAA All-Tournament First Team and MPSF All-Tournament Second Team. Estes recorded three goals at the NCAA Championships and five in the conference tournament.

Dingeldein, a senior driver, finished with 35 goals and scored in 20 of the team's 25 contests. She was named to the 2002 MPSF Championship All-Tournament Second Team after recording eight goals in the conference tournament. Dingeldein also was selected to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Second Team.

The Cardinal finished 2002 with a 23-2 overall record and won their first national title with a 8-4 win over UCLA on May 12.
