Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's tennis team will begin its defense of its back-to-back titles of the NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championship on Friday, May 9 against Louisiana-Monroe at the Taube Tennis Center. The Cardinal enter the tournament as the top-seed in the 64-team bracket announced on Wednesday.
Stanford (20-1), also ranked No. 1 in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Rankings, have lost just two matches over the past three seasons and carry an 18-match win streak into their opening round match at home. The Cardinal has won a record 12 NCAA titles. Last year's NCAA finalist Florida is the No. 2 seed, followed by Duke, California and Southern California.
Stanford will take on unranked Louisiana-Monroe (20-3) on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. In the other first round match on The Farm, 37th-ranked Colorado (14-8) will face 42nd-ranked Michigan (13-9) at 10 a.m.
The winners of Friday's first round matches will face off on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in second round action. The winner of Saturday's second round match will head to Gainesville, Fla. for the final four rounds of the NCAA Team Championships from Thursday, May 15-Sunday, May 18.
