Stanford Women's Crew is please to announce its recruited class for the fall of 2004. With several seniors graduating this spring Head Coach Aimee Baker will look to this talented group of young athletes to have an immediate impact on the program. Further strengthened by the return of several current team members: junior Sam Magee returning from the US Olympic Team, sophomore Alexis Peterson and junior Susan BeVille returning from injuries, the Cardinal Women will look to place themselves within the nation's top ranked programs early in the 2005 spring season. Coming to the Farm this fall will be:
Kelly Foster from Lake Stevens, Washington. Kelly's prowess on the erg has taken her far in her four years of rowing. In addition to competing for Everett Rowing Association, Kelly has represented the United States on the Junior National Rowing Team. In '03 she helped the 8+ win silver at the World Championships, she won the Indoor World Championships and the European Open, and held the national record for the fastest junior erg. Kelly will bring sheer power and strength to the Cardinal line up.
Stephanie Morrison from Nelson, British Columbia promises to be another Canadian stand-out for Stanford. Stephanie graduated early from L.V. Roger's high school in order to move to Victoria to row with Victoria City Rowing Club. Prior to her move, she helped the Canadian Junior National Team win the 4x at the '02 CanAmMex and Nelson Rowing Club win the 8+ at Canada Cup and finish 2nd in the 1x and the 4x at Canadian Henley in '03. With a short term goal of rowing at the '04 Junior Worlds and long term goal of rowing at the '08 Olympics, Stephanie has the talent, the passion, and the commitment to help Stanford challenge for a national championship.
Kerry Birk from Scottsdale, Arizona has quickly risen to be one of the top junior rowers in the United States today. With less than a year of rowing experience from Choate Rosemary Hall Kerry was selected to attend the 2003 Development Camp last summer. A camp standout, Kerry helped the US Junior 8+ to win gold at CanAmMex and US Rowing Nationals. Her recent success on the erg placed her 4th overall and 1st for the US in the junior women's event at CRASH-B's this winter and currently finds her at the top of the April US Rowing 2k rankings. Great things lie ahead for this soon-to-be Cardinal athlete.
Jenifer Brown from Newton, Massachusetts is one of the best junior coxswains in the country. As the top coxswain for the Winsor School, Jen lead her crews to victories at the 2002 and 2003 Head of the Charles Regattas. Last spring her 4+ went on to win the US Rowing Youth Invitational and the Groton School Cup. A victory at the Women's Henley Regatta in England capped a fantastic year for the Winsor 4+ and gave Jen the experience Stanford will rely on in leading it crews in the next four years of successful racing at Stanford.
