Stanford, Calif. - Southern Mississippi defeated Utah,13-5, in the morning elimination game at the NCAASoftball Regional at Stanford, Calif. Southern Missimproves to 33-25 on the year while the Utes end theirseason with a 23-33 record.
Utah got on the board first with a run in the bottomof the first as Bryanne Durrence scored on an error bythe rightfielder.
The Golden Eagles answered with four in the top thirdas Sarah Boyd hit a grand slam.
For USM, Jessisca Huerta went 3-for-4 with three RBIand two runs scored while Body went 2-for-4 with fourRBI and a run scored. Ashley Davis also collected twohits on the morning.
Utah was led by Lynsey Wall who went 2-for-3 withthree RBI and two runs scored. Wall homered twiceduring the game.
Southern Mississippi's Jessica Holaway (18-7) pickedup the win, allowing five runs on seven hits with onestrikeout. Utah's Brianna Gourdin (18-9) took the lossas she gave up five runs on seven hits in threeinnings of work for the Utes.
USM advances to play the loser of the Hofstra/SouthernIllinois game tonight at 8 p.m.
