STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Pacific scored six runs on 10 hits en route to a 6-1 defeat of Fresno State in an elimination game of the NCAA Softball Regional at Smith Family Stadium on the campus of Stanford University on Friday night.
Pacific jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and never looked back on a homerun to left field by Jennifer Curtier. The Tigers held a 2-0 advantage on another homer by Curtier in the third inning. Fresno State got one run in the bottom half of the third, but could not get any closer.
Michelle Anunciation drove in two more Tiger runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1. Pacific then added two runs on three hits in the top of the seventh to make it 6-1. The Bulldogs did get a leadoff single from Shasta Lewis in the final inning, but could not score.
Pacific's Jennifer Dacre went the distance and picked up her 16th win of the season. She finished with five strikeouts and surrendered five hits. Anunciation led the Tiger offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Nicole Inouye and Curtier also had two hits for Pacific in the contest.
Jamie Southern took the loss for Fresno State finishing her season at 30-7.
Pacific advances to face the winner of the Southern Mississippi/Southern Illinois game on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Fresno State concludes their season at 48-20.
