Stanford, Calif. -- Hofstra defeated Southern Illinois, 3-1, tonight to advance to the championship game of the Stanford NCAA Regional at the Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Pride improve to 37-20 while the Salukis end their season with a 45-17 mark.
Hofstra scored two runs in the bottom of the second when leftfielder Lisa Torres tripled to right centerfield, scoring Hailey Clark and Meaghan Almon.
SIU picked up a run in the top of the fourth when Jenny Doehring hit a solo shot to left field.
The Pride picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Ashley Lane homered to left field.
Alexis Alcantara (11-3) picked up the win for Hofstra, scattering four hits over seven innings with one run scored and five strikeouts. Alison Thompson (6-4) took the loss for the Salukis, allowing three runs over on six hits over 5.2 innings of work.
Hofstra's Lisa Torres was 2-for-2 on the night with two RBI while Ashley Lane went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
SIU shortstop Jenny Doehring posted the Salukis' only run and RBI of the game in a 1-for-3 night at the plate.
Hofstra will now face Stanford in the championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
