STANFORD, Calif. - Five members of the No. 2 Stanford women's water polo team have been selected to All-MPSF Teams as voted on by the conference's head coaches. Senior two-meter defender Wendy Watkins earned First-Team honors, junior two-meter defender Hannah Luber was named to the Second-Team, while freshman goalie Meridith McColl garnered Honorable Mention accolades. Newcomers McColl, two-meter Christina Hewko and driver Katie Hansen were named to the MPSF All-Freshman Team.
Watkins, a Modesto, Calif., native, leads Stanford this season with 27 goals. She has tallied at least one goal in 15-of-24 games this year, and boasts nine multiple-goal games. Watkins earned MPSF Player of the Week honors for March 21 after notching the game-winning goal in Stanford's 7-6 overtime win over Hawaii.
Luber ranks second on the Cardinal squad with 25 goals. She notched a career-high three scores against UC San Diego at the UCSB Tournament. Luber, who hails from Beaverton, Ore., has posted nine multiple-goal games this year and scored in 15-of-24 Stanford contests.
McColl is a freshman from Mission Viejo, Calif. In her initial collegiate season, McColl has tallied 129 saves as the Cardinal's starting goalie. She earned MPSF Player of the Week honors for April 18 after tallying five saves and holding UCLA to three goals in Stanford's 5-3 win over the Bruins.
Hewko has recorded 14 scores in her initial collegiate season. She notched one goal against USC in the final game of the MPSF Tournament, and has posted two double-goal games. Hewko hails from Newport Beach, Calif.
Hansen, a Coronado, Calif., native, ranks third on the squad and leads all Cardinal freshmen with 23 goals this season. In Stanford's 7-6 overtime win against Hawaii, Hansen tallied a career-high four scores. She has tallied a goal in 16-of-24 games this year.
