Stanford, Calif. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from nine NFCA regions. A total of 241 players from 117 different teams comprised the first and second regional teams.
The Stanford Cardinal had three athletes named to the Pacific All-Region team for 2005. Junior outfielder Catalina Morris (Sonoita, AZ) was a first-team selection while junior shortstop Lauren Lappin (Anaheim, CA) and freshman third baseman Michelle Smith (Agoura Hills, CA) were second-team honorees.
All three were selected to the Pac-10 All-Conference teams as well. Morris leads the team with 64 hits on the year and a .362 batting average. She has 14 doubles and 13 homeruns as well. Lappin is hitting at a .344 clip with a team-leading 49 runs scored and seven stolen bases. She has 54 hits and nine doubles in 2005. Smith leads the team with a school-record 18 homeruns ans is hitting .313. Her 50 RBI also leads the squad.
Chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. These will be announced on ESPN during the Women's College World Series.
