NCAA Singles/Doubles Championship Quotes - Day 6

May 28, 2005

Recap | Notes

Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette, Stanford
Alice Barnes:
"When we got up in the second set, I started to think about who would be serving for the match, and I was really hoping it was Erin. She was serving great all day."
"Ever since Erin came back from her injury, I think we just got better and better all the time. I just hoped that we would have enough time to get enough matches under our belt to compete well here. A month ago, I didn't even think we were going to be able to play in this tournament and we were both very disappointed."

Erin Burdette: "A month and a half ago I couldn't even lift my arm without a lot of pain. To be able to come back and play for this title was fantastic."

Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey, Stanford
Amber Liu:
"It was very awkward playing against teammates. We didn't go for all the shots we would go for normally. I think it definitely had a big effect. I think this is a good step in the right direction, and we're very excited about next year."

Anne Yelsey: "It took us a while to adjust to it. We were trying to go for crafty shots instead of trying to kill the ball at each other. I think that may have cost us some points and led to some great points. It also was different because we knew each other's game so well. It made for some really interesting and longer points because we knew what each other were trying to do."
"We've been here for about 15 days now. It feels like we live here. I can't wait for next year when we'll host."
