Kenney led the Cardinal to their 25th consecutive Pacific-10 Championshp in 2006. At the conference championship, Kenney coached his swimmers to seven individual and two relay titles. Kenney coached Stanford to a third place finish at the NCAA Championship in Atlanta, Ga, after the Cardinal was voted champion of the 2005-06 dual meet season in the S.R. Smith - College Swim Coaches Association (CSCAA) Top 25 Poll. The men's swimming Coach of the Year award is the 18th of Kenney's career.
Cass, a freshman from Columbus, Ohio, placed second in the 200 individual medley, fifth in the 100 backstroke, and seventh in the 200 backstroke at the Pac-10 Championship. At the NCAA Championship, Cass finished seventh in the 200 IM, eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and tenth in the 200 breaststroke to earn three All-American honors. Dumais, a freshman from Ventura, Ca, finished second in both springboard events at the 2006 Pac-10 Championship. Dumais also took third on the platform. At the NCAA Championship, dumais placed ninth on the one-meter springboard, 17th in the three-meter springboard, and 14th in the platform event.
