Walnut Creek, Ca - Chauntae Bayne-Hackett and Sarah Hopping, who both helped lead the Stanford women's track & field team to victory over California in the 17th annual Big Meet last weekend, have been named Pac-10 Women Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Bayne-Hackett, a sophomore from Ft. Worth, Texas, accounted for 15 of Stanford's 89 points in the win over the Golden Bears. Bayne-Hackett posted victories in the 100 meters (11.32) and the 200 meters (23.01). Both times were Big Meet records. Bayne-Hackett also ran the second leg on the winning 400 meter relay team (44.32) which not only was a Big Meet record but also the third-fastest time in school history.
Hopping, a senior from Longmont, Colorado, took top honors in the hammer throw at the Big Meet, breaking her own school record three times in the process. Hopping entered the meet with a school-best 205-10 (62.74m), but bettered that mark three times, including her last toss which measured at 211-4 (64.42m). That mark ranks eighth on the Pac-10's all-time list.
