Stanford Men's Gymnastics has announced the addition of three recruits to the Class of 2010. Andrew McIntyre, Nicholas Noone and Eric Hereganrader have made commitments to Stanford and will join the Cardinal squad next fall.
"I am greatly pleased with the commitments from Nick, Andrew and Eric," said head coach Thom Glielmi. "I could not be more satisfied with the strengths these three bring."
A native of South Hamilton, Mass., McIntyre currently attends Hamilton-Wenham High School. He was named to the Regional Team in 2005 and 2006 and was the 2006 Regional high bar champion. McIntyre was also a six-time Junior Olympic Nationals competitor and a four-time Academic All-American.
"Andrew will add needed depth to the horizontal bar line-up," said Glielmi.
"I'm very excited to be going to Stanford next year," said McIntyre, "I am lucky to get the opportunity to go to a such a great school as well as be a part of one of the best gymnastics teams in the country."
Noone hails from Danbury, Conn. and attends Danbury High School. He competed at the 2005 VISA U.S. Championships and was the 2005 New England all-around champion. Noone was second on the parallel bars at the 2005 Junior Olympic National Championships, as well as 14th all-around.
"Nick just gets better and better," Glielmi said, "I am confident his impact on the team will be immediate."
"I cannot wait to get to Stanford and start training," Noone commented. "I'm excited about training in a gym with that caliber of athlete."
From Plano, Texas, also the home of current Stanford sophomore Chris Harper, Hereganrader attends Plano Senior High School. He was a four-time Region III team member and a four-time Academic All-American. Hereganrader was also the 2006 Texas All-Around State Champion and a four-time Junior Olympic Nationals all-around finalist.
"Eric is one of the top pommel horse workers in the country," noted Glielmi, "He can camp out on one pommel. For non-gymnastics people, this is very difficult and quite exceptional."
Hereganrader explained his decision to compete for the Cardinal: "I chose Stanford not only because of its academic reputation, but because I felt the gymnastics program was a perfect fit for me."
"These three athletes are solid all-around competitors and will challenge the returning line-up on all events," concluded Glielmi. "The real kicker is their work ethic and enthusiasm. I am sure it will add to the already dynamic training environment."
