Second-ranked Pepperdine defeated No. 1 ranked and undefeated Georgia4-2 to capture the 2006 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship tonight at theTaube Tennis Center at Stanford. It was the first men's tennischampionship in Pepperdine history and the first men's tennis titlein West Coast Conference history. The Waves finished the season 36-2while Georgia suffered their first defeat of the season after 30consecutive wins.

Pepperdine led 1-0 after winning the doubles point. Singles victoriesby Ivor Lovrak and Omar Altmann put the Waves on the brink of thetitle. Andre Begemann, at No. 4 singles, clinched the match forPepperdine with a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Georgia's Matic Omerzel.
