Stanford has been selected as a host site for the 2006 NCAA Men's and Women's First and Second Round matches to be played at the Taube Tennis Center May 12-14. The women's first and second round matches will be played May 12-13 while the men's first and second round matches will take place May 13-14. The Cardinal men and women will face Quinnipiac in the first round.
The NCAA announced today the 64-team field for both the men's and women's tournaments and the pairings for the 16 first/second round sites. The winners of each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will take place at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center May 18-29 in the first ever combined men's and women's tournament.
The Cardinal men, 15-3 and ranked 13th in the country, will face Quinnipiac in the first round on Saturday, May 13 at 12:00 pm. Cal will play U.C. Santa Barbara in the other first round match at 9:00 am on May 13. The winners will advance to the second round on Sunday, May 14 at 11:00 am with a trip to the NCAA Championship at stake.
The top eight seeds were Georgia (25-0), Pepperdine (30-2), Texas (22-3), Duke (20-6), Baylor (20-6), Ohio State (25-1), Illinois (22-6) and Virginia (21-8). Stanford was seeded 13th in the 64-team field.
