Las Vegas, Nev. - Five Stanford wrestlers finished competition this weekend at the US National and FILA Junior National Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Freshmen Lucas Espericueta and Zack Giesen placed in their respective weight classes, and Stanford athletes combined for ten wins.
Espericueta went 3-3 at 70 kg, earning a sixth place finish and qualifying for the 2007 FILA Junior World Team Training Camp and World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 20-26. Giesen took seventh at 84 kg, after posting a 4-2 record. Justin Paulsen and Anton Scherba also competed at the championships, and finished with 0-2 and 1-2 records, respectively.
Junior Tanner Gardner went 2-0 at the US National Qualifying Tournament on Friday and advanced to compete in Saturday's US National Championships. The two-time All-American finished the weekend with a 2-2 record.
