Buffalo, N.Y. - Former Stanford football player Trevor Hooper has signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills, where he will join Stanford teammate Trent Edwards, who was selected in the third round (92nd pick overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft last Saturday.
Hooper was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 safety for Stanford as a senior in 2006, when he finished second on the club with 91 tackles (#6 Pac-10), while leading the team with 2.5 sacks and adding 3.5 tackles-for-loss and an interception.
A native of nearby Mountain View, Calif., Hooper earned the 2006 Al Masters Award given to the Stanford player displaying the highest degree of leadership and respect of his teammates, as well as the 2006 Cardinal Warrior Award given to the Stanford player demonstrating a positive attitude and a consistent commitment to strength and conditioning. He was selected by his teammates aa one of the squad's captains for 2006.
Hooper finished his career with 204 tackles (119 solo, 85 assisted), 3.0 sacks, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, four interception, two fumble recoveries, a blocked kick and 12 pass breakups in 40 games and 29 starts, including all 12 games in his 2006 senior campaign.
Hooper had 40 tackles, four pass breakups, one blocked kick and a fumble recovery as a junior in 2005, following a 2004 season that was plagued by injuries in which he totaled just 13 tackles and 0.5 tackles-for-loss.
Prior to his stellar senior season, Hooper's best campaign came as a freshman in 2003 when he earned the starting spot at strong safety and was named by First Team Freshman All-Pac-10 and Third Team Freshman All-American by The Sporting News. He started all 11 games and finished fifth on the team with 60 tackles, while leading the squad with three interceptions
Hooper was the first student-athlete from Mountain View High School to earn a Pac-10 scholarship. He was named to SuperPrep's All-Far West squad when he was the Santa Clara Valley Athletic MVP as a senior in 2001 when he led his squad to its first SCVAL title since 1995 by rushing for 1230 yards and scoring 14 TD's on offense, while making 50 tackles on defense.
