STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford Women's Varsity Eight will be taking to the water as an at-large bid in the 2008 NCAA Rowing Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Hosted by the University of California in conjunction with the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, racing will begin on Friday, May 30 and conclude Sunday, June 1 with the crowning of the Division I team champion.
Joining Stanford in the Division I team championship are Brown, California, Harvard, Michigan State, Ohio State, Princeton, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Washington Sate, Wisconsin and Yale. Clemson, Michigan, and USC were selected as the other three at-large Division I eights that will participate in the championships. Last year, Brown won its sixth overall Division I title by edging out Virginia at Melton Hill Lake in Knoxville, Tenn.
Racing at the NCAA Rowing Championships begins with preliminary heats at 8 a.m., Friday (May 30) and will involve a total of 37 races. Stanford will row in the No. 2 Women's Eight Race at 8:15 a.m. on Friday. Live splits and results (unofficial) will be provided by Jamco Times and a live webcast will be available at the NCAA site. At last year's championships, the Varsity Eight advanced to the women's petite final, and took fourth in that race.
