Barte, Burdette Selected To NCAA Singles, Doubles Championships

STANFORD, Calif.- Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette were the lone Stanford players selected to compete in the NCAA Championships for singles and doubles, as announced Wednesday afternoon.

Stanford's No. 1 doubles team, Barte and Burdette have been tabbed one of four Nos. 5-8 seeds in the draw.

Carolyn McVeigh and Jessica Nguyen, Stanford's No. 2 doubles team, is currently listed as the third alternate in the field.

In singles competition, Barte is Stanford's only participant. The sophomore is the tournament's No. 7 overall seed.

Opponents will be announced at a later date.

No. 13 Stanford (17-4, 6-2 Pac-10) will be making its 28th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance when first round competition gets underway at campus sites next weekend.

The Cardinal has been tabbed as the No. 13 overall seed in this year's draw, and as a result Taube Family Tennis Stadium will serve as one of 16 host sites for first and second round action, scheduled for May 9-10.

All first and second round matches are played at campus sites. The final 16 teams square off at the NCAA Championships, hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, beginning Friday, May 15. The national championship match is set for Tuesday, May 19.

Stanford will host unranked Wichita State (21-5, 8-0 Missouri Valley) in the opening round on Saturday, May 9, in a 12 p.m. match. The other first round contest pits No. 25 LSU (13-10, 3-7 SEC) against No. 50 Long Beach State (18-7, 8-0 Big West) at 9 a.m. Saturday's winners will meet on Sunday, May 10, in a second round match at 1 p.m.
