STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore Alex Clayton punched his ticket to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Friday morning in College Station, Texas, taking down a top-15 opponent for the second straight day.
Clayton, ranked No. 21 in the country, knocked off No. 12 Nate Schnugg of Georgia 6-4, 7-6 (4) in a round of 16 match on Friday. After Clayton downed Baylor's Jordan Rux 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round on Wedensday, he upset No. 3 Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 in the second round yesterday.
Clayton will face the winner of Devin Britton (Mississippi)/Bruno Rosa (Rice) in Saturday's quarterfinals.
