STANFORD, Calif. - Four of Stanford women's water polo's incoming freshmen completed successful outings at their respective section's CIF swimming championships. Annika Dries (Laguna Beach HS) led all incoming Cardinal student-athletes with a gold medal as part of LBHS' 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Other 2010 Cardinal women's water polo players to participate in the championships were Vee Dunlevie (Sacred Heart Prep), Jillian Garton (Granite Bay HS) and Alexis Lee (Ventura HS).
Dries, who earned her gold at the CIF Southern Section Division III Championships, also claimed a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.06 in the finals, and took fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:54.66.
Lee, participating in the same meet but at the Division I level with Ventura High School, had a high finish on the day of ninth place with a time of 5:04.28 in the 500-yard freestyle. She also took 11th in the 200-yard freestyle and anchored Ventura's 400-freestyle relay team in 52.62 that finished 13th.
At the Central Coast Section (CCS) Championships, Dunlevie swam the breaststroke leg of SHP's 200-yard medley relay. She also competed in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.
Garton, participating in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships, claimed fourth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a final time of 52.68 for her top finish of the meet. She claimed a second top-10 finish by taking seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.11, and swam the leadoff leg of Granite Bay's 200-yard freestyle relay team, clocking a split of 24.88.
Fellow incoming women's water polo freshmen Kate Baldoni and Victoria Kennedy also turned in personal bests in their league championships to conclude their prep swimming seasons.
