Academic All-MPSF Scholar-Athlete ListSTANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's water polo boasted 10 student-athletes that were named Academic All-MPSF Scholar-Athletes, the conference announced Friday. Of the Cardinal's 10 selections, there were three seniors, four juniors and three sophomores that made the list.
The Cardinal's 10 selections were also the second-best of all MPSF teams, just behind California's 12 picks.
Senior two-meter defender Heather West led the Stanford contingent with a 3.81 grade-point average, earning her third career all-academic nod from the MPSF. Also earning the third nod of her career was driver Kira Hillman (3.57).
Four Cardinal student-athletes were honored by the MPSF for the second time, led by senior Koree Blyleven and her 3.52 GPA. She was joined by two-meter defender Jessica Steffens (3.23), driver Kelly Eaton (3.21) and driver Kelsey Holshouser (3.09).
First-time selections for Stanford were driver Kim Krueger (3.73), goalkeeper Kim Hall (3.32), two-meter defender Allie Gerrity (3.19) and two-meter Alex Koran (3.04).
Stanford ended the 2009 season with an overall record of 26-4 and a third-place finish at the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship in College Park, Md. The Cardinal also claimed second in the MPSF regular season with a 6-1 record, as well as at the MPSF Tournament in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
