STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Corey Hanewich's three-run double propelled the No. 11 Stanford softball team to a 3-1 win over San Jose State, Tuesday, at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improves to 27-8 overall, while the Spartans drop to 16-26 on the year.

Senior pitcher Ashley Chinn threw her ninth complete game of the season, improving to 13-2 overall. She struck out seven batters and allowed just one run on five hits with no walks. San Jose State's Janessa Gutierrez took the loss, dropping to 4-3 on the year.

Haneewich led the way with her three-run double, while sophomore right fielder Teagan Gerhart tallied two hits and scored a run.

Stanford registered its first hit of the game in the fourth inning as sophomore Jenna Rich singled through the left side. The Cardinal had two runners in scoring position, but failed to capitalize as the game remained scoreless through the first four innings.

Stanford loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gerhart led off with a single to center field. Senior Melisa Koutz, pinch hitting for Kelsey Gerhart, singled up the middle, and then junior Sarah Hassman put three on with a single to left field. With no outs, Hanewich hit a bases-clearing double to give the Cardinal the 3-0 lead.

The Spartans avoided the shutout, scoring one run in the top of the seventh inning.

The Cardinal continues Pac-10 Conference play at home this weekend as it hosts the Oregon State Beavers Apr. 15-17 at Smith Family Stadium.
