STANFORD, Calif. -

Men’s Volleyball
With its victory over UCLA on Saturday, Stanford completed season sweeps of the Bruins and Pepperdine in the same year for the first time ever. Given the histories of those two programs and that both remain coached by Al Scates and Marv Dunphy, respectively, Stanford’s achievement was significant. Stanford swept the season series against Pepperdine for the first time since 1997 and swept its regular-season series against UCLA for the first time since 2001, though the Cardinal lost to the Bruins in the postseason that year. Stanford also went through the season without dropping both ends of any road trip for the first time since 2002. Ranking: No. 4 (AVCA).

Baseball
After a rough weekend at USC, No. 17-ranked Stanford (16-9) returns to the Bay Area for 10 days after playing five of its first six weekends on the road. This weekend’s series against No. 9 Oregon State will be the team's fourth against a top-25 opponent. Stanford dropped series at No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 6 Texas earlier this season on the road.

The next three weeks will be a key stretch for the club. Following the Beavers, Stanford plays host to UCLA and then travels to Arizona State. All four teams should be in the mix for the Pac-10 Conference title along with early favorite UCLA (7-2). OSU checks in at 5-1, while Stanford, following the 1-2 weekend, is 3-3. Ranking: No. 17 (Baseball America).

Men’s Golf
Joseph Bramlett, class of 2010, is coming off his best tournament finish as a PGA Tour rookie. Bramlett tied for 42nd at the Shell Houston Open (March 31-April 3) by shooting four-under par and earned his biggest payday, $20,060. After failing to make the cuts in three of his first four events, Bramlett has reversed that trend and made the cuts in three of his past four tournaments, increasing his season earnings to $45,223.

Stanford will play in the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz on Saturday and Sunday in the team’s final preparation for the postseason. The Cardinal has made an annual event out of playing on the Alister MacKenzie-designed course, but has not won the team title since 1996. Stanford has won the team title eight times, but only once since 1962, and has four individual champions, with the most recent being Rob Grube in 2006. Ranking: No. 17 (Golfweek/Sagarin).

Women’s Golf
Stanford plays at the Pac-10 Championships April 17-19 at Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz. Stanford is hoping to end a Pac-10 drought by winning its first team title since 1999 and first individual title since Mhairi McKay won in 1997. Those are the only titles the Cardinal has won in conference tournament play, though McKay still holds the record for the lowest 56-hole total in Pac-10 history. Stanford has been fairly successful when the Pac-10s are played at Karsten, having placed second in 2001 and third in 1992 in previous championships there. Ranking: No. 28 (Golfweek/Sagarin).

Men’s Gymnastics
Next up in Stanford’s quest for NCAA team title No. 100 is men’s gymnastics. The championships take place April 14-16 in Columbus, Ohio. Stanford has the second-highest team qualifying score (359.042) to Oklahoma’s 359.683. However, Stanford beat the No. 1-ranked Sooners and No. 3 California at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships April 2 at the Air Force Academy. Tim Gentry, an MPSF co-Gymnast of the Year, leads Stanford. Of note: Each of Stanford’s four NCAA titles was preceded with a conference title. Ranking: No. 2 (GymInfo).

Lacrosse
Stanford’s best-ever season (12-1) got even better with a 16-6 victory over Denver, the team that pushed the Cardinal into double overtime in last year’s MPSF final. In four MPSF games so far, the closest anyone has come to Stanford is 19-11, by Cal, which was expected to be Stanford’s top competitor in conference play. Ranking: No. 7 (IWLCA).

Men’s Rowing
The Cardinal I Eight finished behind California in the competition for the Copley Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic, crossing the line just 2.75 seconds back. Stanford’s second varsity eight had a time of 6:12.32, which was good for a runner-up finish, 7.62 seconds behind California. The second-place effort by the men was the II Eight's best finish in San Diego in many years. Men's Varsity Eight Ranking: No. 6 (U.S. Rowing).

Women’s Rowing
Stanford's I Eight finished second in the Jessop-Whittier Grand Final on Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay, just 2.63 seconds back of the winning USC boat. The II Eight finished second at 6:49.00, just over four seconds behind the winning Washington crew. Ranking: No. 5 (U.S. Rowing).

Sailing
Stanford defended its Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference title in the coed races this past weekend and will get back to work over the next two weekends to defend the team and women's titles. Stanford beat UC Santa Barbara by 29 points and UCLA by 32 points in what was expected to be a much closer race. Kevin Laube skippered the B Division team to the top score, while freshman Mateo Vargas skippered the A Division boat to 37 points, the second lowest score of any of the 12 teams. Coed Ranking: No. 11 (Sailing World). Women's Ranking: No. 12 (Sailing World).

Softball
Stanford won its first Pac-10 Conference series of the year, taking two out of three at No. 6 UCLA last weekend. The series included a 14-inning marathon on Friday, which the Bruins won 6-5. The Cardinal bounced back to win the next two games, earning its first victories over the Bruins since 2007. Stanford's Ashley Hansen and Teagan Gerhart earned Pac-10 Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for their efforts. The Cardinal continues conference play this weekend against Oregon State at Smith Family Stadium. Ranking: No. 22 (NFCA).

Men’s Tennis
Riding a season-best six-match winning streak, No. 8 Stanford (14-5, 4-1 Pac-10) plays its final four home matches of the regular season at home. Three of those are against nonconference opponents, with the regular season finale against California set for April 23 at home. Ranking: No. 8 (ITA).

Women’s Tennis
Despite its standing as the nation's only undefeated team, No. 2 Stanford (21-0, 7-0 Pac-10) finds itself behind No. 1 Florida in the latest edition of the national rankings. Even though Stanford handed Florida its only loss of the year back in February, this marks the second time the Gators have overtaken the Cardinal for the nation's top spot. The ITA attributes this week's computerized poll shakeup to two factors: record against the nation's top 5 (Florida has four wins, Stanford has two) and road wins against the nation's top 25 (Florida has three, Stanford has two).

Other than the quirky poll movement, Stanford is doing just fine. Following a 5-2 win over Washington on Senior Day this weekend, Stanford has now won 40 consecutive contests overall dating back to its last loss: a 6-1 setback at UCLA in late February of last year. Ranking: No. 2 (ITA).

Men’s Track and Field
Geoffrey Tabor had a big day at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Eugene, Ore., placing second in both the shot put and the discus. Tabor tossed 57-10 ½ in the shot put, which ranks ninth all-time at Stanford. In the discus, Tabor tossed 182-2 to finish second. Stanford competed with Oregon, Nebraska, and Washington. Ranking: No. 8 (USTFCCCA).

Women’s Track and Field
The Cardinal had some record-breaking performances at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Eugene, Ore., as Kori Carter set the school record in the 100-meter hurdles, while Katerina Stefanidi broke the meet record in the pole vault. Carter broke her own school record in the 100 hurdles in 13.38. Stefanidi cleared 14-4 to win the meet title. Ellie McCardwell was fourth with a vault of 12-11 ½, which ranks seventh in school history. Ranking: No. 16 (USTFCCCA).

Women’s Water Polo
Stanford takes its 21-game winning streak and No. 1 ranking to Berkeley for a Saturday game against No. 2 Cal at 7 p.m. The teams are in a virtual tie for first in the MPSF, with Cal at 6-0 and Stanford at 5-0 in conference play. Stanford’s Annika Dries (47 goals) is third in the MPSF in scoring, at 2.24 goals per game. Ranking: No. 1 (CWPA).
