STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher Teagan Gerhart threw a two-hit shutout, Friday, as the11th-ranked Stanford softball team posted a 7-0 win over Oregon State at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal moves to 28-8 overall and 3-4 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers fall to 18-14 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.

Gerhart struck out seven hitters and issued just one walk as she improved to 15-6 on the year. It was the second shutout of the season for the sophomore. Oregon State's Tina Andreana took the loss, dropping to 5-6 overall.

Six different Cardinal batters registered a hit in the game, including two by first baseman Melisa Koutz. The senior also tallied two RBI and drew a walk in the win. Junior shortstop Ashley Hansen hit a solo home run, while Sarah Hassman, Danielle Miller and Jenna Rich each recorded an RBI in the game.

Stanford took an early 1-0 lead in the game in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Sarah Hassman led off with a walk and then advanced to third on a double by freshman Corey Hanewich. Hassman scored as freshman designated player Danielle Miller grounded out to the pitcher.

The Cardinal added another run in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Hassman reached on a fielder's choice, scoring freshman Michelle Prong from third.

Hansen led off the third with a solo home run well over the center field wall. It marked the sixth home run of the season for the junior. Miller singled up the middle and then scored on a double by sophomore Jenna Rich. With just one out, Prong drew a walk and then advanced to third on two wild pitches by OSU pitcher Marina Demore. Senior first baseman Melisa Koutz made it 5-0 Stanford with a single through the left side.

The Cardinal wasn't finished as it increased its lead to 6-0 after four complete. With two runners on, Hansen flew out to center field. After tagging up at second, Hassman advanced to third and then scored on an error by OSU shortstop Nikki Chandler.

Stanford completed the scoring in the sixth inning. Rich reached on a fielder's choice and then scored and Koutz singled up the middle.

Stanford and OSU continue the three-game series, Saturday, Apr. 16 at 1 p.m.
