STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's water polo junior two-meter Melissa Seidemann was named MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The announcement makes Seidemann Stanford's fourth recipient of the weekly honor this season. It is also the second time in Seidemann's career that she has earned the honor.
Seidemann notched her fifth hat trick of the season Friday night, scoring three times in No. 1 Stanford's 17-5 victory over No. 7 San Jose State at Avery Aquatic Center.
Seidemann, who is second on the team with 40 goals, scored her first goal Friday in the opening minutes as part of a 3-0 Cardinal run. Later on, she scored twice more in the second half to help Stanford put the game away and sew up the perfect regular season.
The win completed a perfect regular season for the Cardinal, which closed with a 23-0 overall record and its second straight 7-0 performance in MPSF play. Stanford, which clinched the MPSF Championship's top seed two weeks ago, will take on No. 8 seed Arizona State this Friday, April 29 in MPSF quarterfinal action at 1:30 p.m. at San Jose State.
