Foard Named Player of the Year as Stanford Sweeps MPSF Awards

April 29, 2011

Stanford, Calif. - After completing an undefeated season in conference and carrying a program-best national ranking of No. 6, the Stanford lacrosse team swept the MPSF postseason awards. Leslie Foard was named MPSF Player of the Year, while Amy Bokker repeated as MPSF Coach of the Year and Anna Kim was named MPSF Newcomer of the Year. In addition, seven players were named to the All-MPSF first team.

Foard was named MPSF Player of the year as a Stanford athlete won the award for the third consecutive season. Foard led the Cardinal from her midfield position, scoring 37 goals and dishing out 18 assists in the regular season, for a team-high 55 points. Each statistic ranks in the top-five in the conference. In addition to scoring in all 16 games, Foard accumulated multiple points in each. Foard is also amongst the national leaders, second in the MPSF, and tops on the Cardinal with 48 draw controls. She was one of just two MPSF players this year to be a two-time conference player of the week honoree, on Feb. 14 and Mar. 7, and is one of 24 nominees for the Teewaraton Award, an award given annually to the nation's top player.

Kim was named MPSF Newcomer of the Year after starting all 16 games for the Cardinal as a freshman. She was one of seven Stanford players to score 15 goals on the year, as eight of her 16 came over the six conference wins. Kim recorded seven multiple-point games, putting away her first career hat trick at St. Mary's on April 3, along with a career-high four points. Kim had a game-high six draw controls on April 8 against second place Denver, on her way to 24 total for the regular season.

Head Coach Amy Bokker earns her third consecutive MPSF Coach of the Year award, following a 14-2 regular season and No. 6 national ranking in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll. She owns 43 wins in her three years with the program heading into the 2011 postseason, including victories over then No. 10 Notre Dame and No. 5 Syracuse. She currently owns 133 career wins in 15 seasons, including an 11-year stint at George Mason where she is the winningest coach in program history. Bokker has coached two-time MPSF Player of the Year Lauren Schmidt, 2011 recipient Foard and newcomer of the year Kim, and has placed seven players on this year's first-team all-conference list.

The seven first team award winners were Foard, Schmidt, Sarah Flynn, Karen Nesbitt, Catherine Swanson, Paige Farmakis and Annie Read. Foard, Schmidt, Flynn and Annie Read repeated as first-team honorees, while Nesbitt, Swanson and Farmakis were honored for the first time.

The Cardinal will be back in action today, Friday, April 29, as the MPSF Tournament begins. Stanford will take on California at 1 p.m.
