ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Stanford's men's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the NCAA Central Regional being held at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind. after the Cardinal shot a team score of 292 (+8) on Friday.
The Cardinal is 14 strokes behind co-leaders Illinois and Alabama, which are tied atop the leader board at 562 (-6). Michigan is in third place at 566 (-2) followed by Iowa at 574 (+6).
The top five teams from the Central Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., May 31-June 5.
Charlotte (583; +15), Tennesse (584; +16) and Florida State (586; +18) are within striking distance of the cutline heading into Saturday's final round.
Junior David Chung is tied for sixth place at 140 (-2) after shooting an even par round of 71 today at Wolf Run. He had five birdies to go along with five bogeys on his Friday card.
Chung is three strokes behind second round leader Scott Langley of Illinois. The 2010 NCAA individual champion sits atop the leader board at 137, two strokes clear of four golfers.
After shooting an opening round 69, Graham Brockington slipped back into a tie for 12th place at 143 (+1) after turning in a three over 74 on Friday.
Sophomore Andrew Yun carded a second round 72 to climb up the leader board into a tie for 26th place at 146 (+4). Yun's five birdies offset six bogies on Friday.
Steven Kearney is tied for 42nd at 150 (+8) after turning in a 75 today, despite making three straight double bogeys on the back side.
Steve Ziegler is tied for 42nd at 150 (+8).
Play at the NCAA Central Regional will conclude on Friday. Stanford will tee off at 7:50 a.m. and will be paired with Iowa and Charlotte.
