ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - Stanford's men's golf team was denied a berth in the NCAA Championship field after the Cardinal finished sixth today at the Central Regional in Zionsville, Ind.
The Cardinal, which began the day in fifth place, could not fight off a hot Tennessee squad, which shot a final round 281 (-3) to move from seventh place into a tie for fourth with Iowa.
Michigan won the team title at 841 (-11), followed by Illinois (843; -9) and Alabama (847; -5). Iowa and Tennessee tied for fourth at 865 (+13).
Luke Guthrie of Illinois and Lion Kim of Michigan shared medalist honors at 205 (-8), two strokes better than Bud Cauley of Alabama.
Stanford's David Chung tied for 11th at 213 (E) after carding a two-over 73 on Saturday at the Wolf Run Golf Club. Chung eagled the par-4 ninth hole and made the turn at one-under, but suffered three bogeys on the backside.
Graham Brockington tied for 23rd at 218 (+5) after shooting a final round 75.
Sophomore Steven Kearney turned in a team-low 71 (E) on Saturday to tie for 31st at 221 (+8).
Andrew Yun tied for 34th at 222 (+9) after shooting a final round 76.
Senior Steve Ziegler closed out his Stanford career with a final round 74, tying for 41st place at 224.
