STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's outstanding women's gymnastics recruiting class became even stronger with the addition of Alex Archer, a two-time Junior Olympic national qualifier.
Coach Kristen Smyth announced that Archer, of Newport Beach, Calif., will join two-time U.S. national champion Ivana Hong, U.S. national team member Samantha Shapiro, British Olympian Becky Wing, and two-time Junior Olympic national qualifier Pauline Hanset in Stanford's five-member recruiting class for next season.
Archer, a senior at Newport Harbor High School and a Level 10 gymnast, has won three California state championships and has two runner-up finishes at the Region 1 championships.
"We are thrilled that Alex and her family will be joining our SWG family in the fall," Smyth said. "Alex has untapped potential and the desire to learn and improve in college. Her vibrant personality and enthusiasm for Stanford make her a great addition to our program."
Archer has carried a 4.0 grade-point average throughout her high school years and is a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Society of High School Scholars.
Archer trains at Precision Gymnastics in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., under coaches Trent and Jill Spaulding. Her sister, McKenna, just completed her sophomore season on the Cornell University gymnastics team.
