STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford Tree is becoming an ESPN favorite, with this version being featured in a SportsCenter commercial, which will debut Wednesday.

The Tree remains in the background, eavesdropping in the ESPN cafeteria as Atlanta Braves' slugger Jason Heyward describes in graphic detail the cutting and sawing it takes to create his bat.

Baseball
Stanford (21-16) dropped out of the Top 25 after dropping two of three at No. 7 Arizona State this past weekend. The Cardinal has played six Top-25 opponents this year, including four in the Top 10, so its' RPI after the weekend is still strong at 15, according to Boydsworld.com. Stephen Piscotty has a team-best .366 average with a high of 17 multi-hit games after three more in Tempe. Senior Danny Sandbrink has returned to the weekend rotation after a five-hitter and career-high nine strikeouts on Saturday. The righthander has allowed three earned runs in his two weekend starts against No. 7 ASU and No. 11 UCLA in a no-decision last week. Ranking: Unranked (Baseball America).

Men's Golf
Andrew Yun was the top Stanford finisher at the Pacific-10 Conference championships at Stanford Golf Course last weekend, placing fourth at 278 (-2). The Cardinal finished fourth as a team, and next plays at an NCAA regional to be determined, on May 19. Ranking: No. 21 (Golfweek/Sagarin).

Women's Golf
The NCAA committee has placed Stanford in the Central Regional, at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., beginning Thursday. Stanford, seeded eighth in the 24-team Central Regional, will be joined by (in order of seeding) UCLA, Duke, LSU, Arkansas, Wake Forest, Texas, Tulane, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Kent State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Northwestern, Minnesota, UNLV, Oklahoma State, North Texas, Wisconsin, East Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Moorehead State, Illinois State and Butler. Ranking: No. 28 (Golfweek/Sagarin).

Lacrosse
The Cardinal won its seventh consecutive Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament title, but it took a big comeback to do so. Stanford fell behind 7-0 and turned to backup goalkeeper Lyndsey Munoz to stop the momentum. Munoz did just that by making six saves and allowing just three goals the rest of the way, and was named the tournament's most valuable player. The Cardinal awaits the NCAA selection show (Sunday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m., PT on ncaa.com) knowing it has earned an automatic bid. Ranking: No. 2 (IWLCA).

Rowing
The Stanford men will race for the Windemere Cup on Saturday at Lake Washington, in Seattle. The Cardinal takes on Washington and the Light Blues of Cambridge University in the 25th annual event. This will be Stanford's final tuneup before the Pac-10 Championships in Gold River, Calif., on the American River between Sacramento and Folsom, on May 15. Men's Varsity Eight Ranking: No. 11 (U.S. Rowing). Women's Ranking: No.2 (U.S. Rowing).

Sailing
The Hood River outside Portland, Ore., will feature the Cardinal's full fleet of sailors at the national championships May 23-29. For the fourth consecutive year, Stanford will send its women's and coed teams after the Cardinal defended its Pacific Coast Conference titles earlier this month, and after the coed team finished fifth at one of two national semifinals last weekend. Kevin Laube skippered the B Division, which was as high as No. 2 on Saturday before falling back, while freshman Mateo Vargas skippered the A Division. Coed Ranking: No. 10 (Sailing World). Women's Ranking: No. 8 (Sailing World).

Softball
The Cardinal was 3-1 last week after taking two of three over visiting Washington. Sophomore pitcher Teagan Gerhart posted a 0.37 ERA for the week and racked up 18 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run. In Friday's 2-1 victory over Washington, Gerhart scored the team's first run and then hit the winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. Ranking: No. 10 (NFCA).

Men's Tennis
Stay tuned to www.gostanford.com's Countdown to the Championships for daily coverage of the 2011 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships. Included are feature stories, historical profiles, match previews, recaps and other news. One of the nation's finest tennis venues, the Taube Family Tennis Center is playing host to its second combined men's and women's NCAA Championships -- the tournament format was introduced at Stanford in 2006. Ranking: No. 7 (ITA).

Women's Tennis
Freshman Kristie Ahn beat USC's Maria Sanchez 7-5, 6-1, to capture the singles title at the Pac-10 Championships on Sunday in Ojai, Calif. Seeded seventh and ranked No. 25 in the nation, Ahn entered the event on a 19-match winning streak and with a 31-3 overall record in her debut season. Simply looking to get healthy and build momentum for the postseason, Ahn upended the country's second-ranked player to earn Stanford's first Pac-10 singles title since Gabriela Lastra defeated USC's Jewel Peterson back on April 28, 2002. In an example of Stanford's depth, Ahn alternates between Nos. 3 and 4 in the lineup. Ranking: No. 2 (ITA).

Men's Track and Field
Stanford rocketed up the national rankings, from No. 23 to 11, following the Payton Jordan Invitational. The success of the distance runners at the meet was the reason. A number of runners competed for the first time or vastly improved their season bests. Thirteen athletes have new marks in the national rankings this week, with none making a bigger impact than Stanford's Big Three in the 5,000 meters: Elliott Heath is the new national leader (13:26.14), Chris Derrick is fourth (13:29.74) and Jake Riley 10th (13.39.49). Ranking: No. 11 (USTFCCCA).

Women's Track and Field
The Cardinal re-entered the national rankings at No. 24 this week. Eda Karesin led Stanford by tossing the javelin 168-4 for a No. 12 ranking. Kori Carter moved up to 14th in the 100-meter hurdles by setting a school record of 13.13. Other additions were Stephanie Marcy in the 5,000 (she is 18th in 16:05.35) and Justine Fedronic in the 800 (24th, 2:06.46). Ranking: No. 24 (USTFCCCA).

Men's Volleyball
Stanford had a strong chance for the sole at-large berth into the NCAA tournament until No. 1-ranked USC was upset at home by No. 7 seed UC Santa Barbara in a five-set MPSF final Saturday. Therefore, UCSB got the MPSF's automatic qualifying spot and USC was awarded the at-large. Stanford (19-9) was denied a chance to defend its NCAA title at Penn State in the four-team tournament that begins Thursday. UCSB was awarded the No. 1 seed and plays USC in the first round. No. 2 Penn State plays No. 3 Ohio State in the other semifinal, with the final to be played Saturday. Ranking: No. 6 (AVCA).

Wrestling
Nick Amuchastegui took home three of the team's top honors at the Cardinal's annual awards banquet. Amuchastegui, the NCAA runner-up at 174 pounds, won the team's Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award, the BAGUBA Award (given to the athlete that most exemplifies what the coaches look for in a Stanford wrestler) and was the co-winner of the Vern Jones Oustanding Wrestler Award with senior Zack Giesen.

Women's Water Polo
Despite an upset loss to UCLA in the semifinals of the MPSF tournament, Stanford received the top seed at the National Collegiate Championship, set for May 13-15 at the University of Michigan. The Cardinal (25-1) earned one of three at-large bids and will open on Friday at 3 p.m. PT against the winner of the Iona-Redlands play-in game. Ranking: No. 1 (CWPA).
