STANFORD, Calif.-- Sally Mace and Helena Scutt were named national sailors of the week after the two Cardinal sailors won their division at last weekend's Emily Wick Trophy and helped the Cardinal finish second in its final tuneup before this weekend's Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Championships.
The duo finished in the top-four over the 17-race, two-day event nine times. They finished in the upper half of the standings in 15 of 17 races among the 17 competitors.
With the showing, the Cardinal women moved up to No. 3 nationally. The women now head to Hawai'i for the two-day conference championship, an event the Cardinal have won each of the last seven years. The coed sailors, who compete at the conference championships in two weekends in Santa Barbara, are currently ranked No. 4.
The three-boat, team racing PCCSC title was won by Stanford last week, qualifying the Cardinal for the national championships in late May and early June in Texas.
