STANFORD, Calif. -- - Defensive end Matt Masifilo and wide receiver Griff Whalen signed free agent contracts with the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts, respectively, Saturday night, following the completion of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Masifilo will be reunited with former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh while Whalen will join Andrew Luck and Coby Fleener with the Colts.
A two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection, Masifilo appeared in 46 career games, including 32 starts. He started 26 consecutive games to close his career. He was credited with 34 tackles, including 2.5 sacks among his 8.0 tackles for loss, as a senior.
Whalen led Stanford in receptions (56) and recieving yardage (749) to go along with his four touchdowns as a senior.
Other players who were not drafted are expected to sign free agent contracts in the days ahead.
Stanford had four players selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. Quarterback Andrew Luck was the first overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts, becoming the fourth Stanford quarterback selected No. 1 overall.
David DeCastro was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 24th overall pick.
Coby Fleener was the first tight end selected in the draft, as the Colts selected the athletic tight end with the second pick in the second round (34th overall).
Tackle Jonathan Martin was selected with the 10th pick in the second round (42nd overall) by the Miami Dolphins.
