Grossman Claims Third KAP 7 MPSF Newcomer Of The Week Honor

April 9, 2012

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman two-meter Ashley Grossman of the second-ranked Stanford women's water polo team was named KAP 7 MPSF Newcomer of the Week for the third time in 2012, the conference announced Monday.

Grossman previously earned the honor on March 5 and April 2. Overall, Stanford has earned the honor six times this season.

Grossman played a big role in the Cardinal's 9-8 overtime win against No. 3 USC Saturday, a performance in which Stanford came back from a late 6-3 deficit to force overtime.

The Santa Monica native was a handful for the Trojan interior defenders all day, creating opportunities in front of the cage for Stanford. Grossman drew a five-meter penalty in the fourth period, then scored the first goal of overtime in the extra frame's first 20 seconds, which put the Cardinal ahead 8-7.

With the win Stanford improved to 19-1 overall and moved into first place in the MPSF standings with a 5-0 conference mark. The Cardinal will host No. 5 California in its regular-season home finale Saturday, April 14 at 4 p.m.
