May 1, 2012

STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford long-distance swimmer David Mosko and runner Miles Unterreiner were awarded two postgraduate scholarships, awarded by the NCAA for the spring season.

Over the last five years, Stanford athletes have been awarded 33 post-graduate scholarships from the NCAA. This year, each student-athlete receives grants of $7,500.

Mosko finished his career as a 14-time All-American, scoring 86 points at the NCAA Championships. This past season he reached the top-16 in the 1650 and 500 freestyles, as well as the 200 fly and 800 free relay. He was a former Pac-10 champion in the 500 free, in 2010, and finishes in the Cardinal top-10 in the 500 and 1650 free, as well as the 200 fly. He was a four-time All-American in both long distance freestyles. Mosko was also named academic all-Pac12 the previous three years.

Unterreiner earned honorable mention All-America honors after a 22nd finish in the 10,000 meters at the 2011 NCAA outdoor championships, after winning the 2011 MPSF 5000 meter title during the indoor season. A three-time Academic All-MPSF and five-time academic all-Pac-10 selection, Unterreiner has already ran qualifying times in the 5000 and 10,000-meter races. He was also an NCAA Elite 88 winner, given to the the athlete with the highest GPA at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships.

To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study, maintaining a cumulative 3.2 GPA.

The NCAA postgraduate scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.
