WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Stanford's Chris Derrick was named the Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week for the period of April 23-29. Derrick was honored after setting the American Collegiate Record in the 10,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational.
Derrick ran a time of 27:31.38 at the annual meet hosted by Stanford, placing third. The time broke Galen Rupp's record by two seconds and was also the Stanford record by 28 seconds. Derrick earned the Olympic 'A' Standard and now owns that mark in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
The senior is a 13-time All-American who is looking for his first NCAA Individual title this spring. He is expected to compete in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Cardinal will next compete in the multi-events at the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6. The full Pac-12 Championships are in two weeks on May 12-13.
