LUCERNE, Switzerland - Former Stanford rower Elle Logan '11 and crewmate Erin Cafaro earned their second silver medal of the month in the women's pair at Samsung World Rowing Cup II in Lucerne over Memorial Day Weekend.
The pair won its first silver at the World Rowing Cup I event three weeks ago, in the process qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Logan and Cafaro have until Wednesday, May 30 to accept the Olympic bid or else the women's pair event will be included at the U.S. Olympic Trials, set for June 11-14 in West Windsor, N.J.
In Lucerne, Logan and Cafaro opened third, before passing the New Zealand pair and into second place by the halfway point of the race. The U.S. could not catch Great Britain's Heather Stanning and Helen Glover, who led wire-to-wire and crossed in a gold medal-winning time of 7:02.14.
Logan and Cafaro finished with a time of 7:04.09, holding off New Zealand by 1.89 seconds.
