STANFORD, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford lightweight I Eight goes for its third straight IRA national title this weekend at the IRA Championships on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The Cardinal, which sends its I Eight and Four to the event, begins action Friday morning with qualifying heats. The I Eight begins its title defense as its class' qualifying heats get underway beginning at 5:30 a.m. PT.

The heats for the Fours are scheduled to get underway at 6 a.m. PT.

The lane draws for Friday's heats will be released Thursday on the IRA Championships Central page.

Stanford's I Eight has captured the past two IRA national titles. In each Grand Final, the Cardinal overcame the No. 1 boat in the rankings to win the title. Last year, Stanford defeated No. 1 Princeton by 0.681 of a second to claim it's second straight gold medal.
