STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing begins competition at the IRA Championships Thursday morning on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Stanford will send three boats to the event, its I Eight, II Eight and Freshman Eight.
The ninth-ranked Cardinal I Eight races in Thursday morning's third heat, at 5:30 a.m. PT against No. 15 Dartmouth, No. 10 Boston University, No. 3 Harvard, No. 4 California and No. 19 George Washington.
Stanford's II Eight gets on the water for the third heat of its class at 6:15 a.m., facing off with Yale, Navy, Washington and Brown.
The Frosh Eight races at 6:30 a.m. in the first heat of its class, taking on Boston University, California, Northeastern, Wisconsin and Gonzaga.
In each class, the top two finishers in each of the three morning heats advance to Saturday's semifinal round. Boats that do not qualify Friday morning must race again in Friday afternoon's repechage heats for a final chance to make the semifinals.
Racing continues Saturday with the semifinal round, and concludes Sunday with the Third, Petite and Grand Finals.
