Ashley Couper, who enjoyed success as a distance runner at Stanford University, the University of Vermont and now with the Palo Alto-based Nike Farm Team, has joined the Stanford track & field/cross country staff.
"Ashley is a young coach who loves the Stanford program and understands what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at Stanford," said Cardinal Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Edrick Floreal. "Ashley is committed to continuing our success in both the men's and women's distance running programs."
Couper enjoyed great success running the distance events at the University of Vermont, at Stanford and now with the Nike Farm Team. At Stanford in 2001, Couper finished sixth in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn All-American honors. Couper also competed indoors on the team's nationally-ranked distance medley relay team. While at Vermont, Couper was a standout competitor in cross country and track. Couper was a conference champion in the 1,500 meters, and was voted the 1999 Vermont cross country collegiate Female Runner of the Year.
Couper, who has continued her running career with the Palo Alto-based Nike Farm Team, holds the Bermuda national record in the 1,500 meters.
Couper graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA degree in French from Vermont in 2000. Couper won numerous academic honors including earning the Honor Roll in the America East Conference (1996-2000) and was the America East Conference Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year (1999).
Couper obtained her Masters degree in Education from Stanford in 2001. During her one-year running career on The Farm, Couper also won Pac-10 All-Academic Honors in addition to being named to the Stanford Athletic Honor Roll.
