As a Sophomore in 2008: Got off to a slow start while recovering from surgery on his left knee... procedure was necessitated by a season-ending injury suffered during the 2007 football campaign...however, rebounded to hit .240 (29-for-121) with eight doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 21 RBI in 56 games (29 starts)...was also one of only four Cardinal players to record at least a .400 on-base percentage, reaching that number exactly (24 walks and a team-high nine hit-by-pitches)...was one of five Pac-10 players to log a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, handling all 69 total chances without an error...started 20 games in left field, six in right field and three as the designated hitter...belted four of his seven home runs and collected 12 of his 21 RBI in Pac-10 play, while batting .279 (12-for-43) in 19 conference games (11 starts)...after his average stood at .143 on April 25, batted .323 (21-for-65) with 20 runs, six doubles, one triple, six home runs and 18 RBI over his final 27 contests (14 starts)...had a .723 slugging percentage and a .457 on-base mark over the span...had his first career multi-homer game on April 26 against USC, finishing 2-for-2 with two home runs and a career-high five RBI...went 9-for-29 (.310) with four doubles, two home runs and five RBI in 11 NCAA Tournament games (seven starts)...was named to the Stanford Regional all-tournament team after going 5-for-9 with three runs scored and three RBI in a pair of elimination-game victories over Pepperdine...he established his career high for hits in the first contest, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, three doubles, a home run and two RBI...turned in a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored and a solo homer in Stanford's 16-5 victory over Florida State in the College World Series opener...he also added an RBI-double in an 8-3, elimination game triumph over Miami.
As a Freshman in 2007: Had a solid rookie season despite missing more than seven weeks after suffering a fractured right forearm in a game at Texas on February 17...did not return to action until a game against Nevada on April 10...finished the season with a .289 batting average (33-for-114), two home runs, 12 RBI and three stolen bases in 30 games (23 starts)...added 23 runs scored and four doubles...handled all 36 of his defensive chances successfully for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage...made his collegiate debut on Feb. 4 at Cal State Fullerton, finishing 1-for-5...posted a career-best eight-game hitting streak from April 21-May 5, with four of those eight contests two-hit games...had four multiple-hit games over his last six contests...spent much of the early and late portions of the season as a starter on both sides of his injury, making 20 of his starts in the outfield (15 LF, 4 RF, 1 CF) and three at designated hitter...had a .286 batting average (16-for-56) in 16 Pac-10 games (11 starts), hitting one homer with five RBI in conference play.
Football: Established Stanford's single-season record with 1,136 rushing yards in 2008, surpassing the previous mark of 1,084 gained by Tommy Vardell in 1991...averaged 5.4 yards per carry, toting the ball 210 times...scored 15 rushing touchdowns, good for second on Stanford's all-time single-season list...became the fifth Stanford running back ever to reach the 1,000-yard plateau (seventh occurance), while he ranked third in the Pac-10 (29th nationally) with an average of 94.7 yards per game...also set a school regular season record with eight 100-yard games, and became one of only three Stanford backs in the last 40 years to reach the century mark in four straight contests...tied the school single-game record with four rushing touchdowns - all in the first half - against Washington State on November 1...has gained 1,651 career rushing yards on 328 carries (5.0 ypc) over his first 25 collegiate games, just 117 yards of 10th place on the school's all-time list...is tied for ninth in Stanford annals with 16 career rushing touchdowns...has also caught 28 passes for 238 yards.
High School: Graduated in 2006 from Norco High School, where he was one of the top two-sport stars in the California prep ranks...ranked No. 50 among the 2006 Top 50 high school prospects by Baseball America...twice selected to the California All-State and All-CIF Southern Section teams (2005 and 2006)...selected All-Mountain View League four times (2003-06) and All-Riverside County on three occasions (2004-06)...chosen his school's 2006 Team MVP...led his squad to three consecutive league titles from 2004-06...set numerous career records at Norco, including runs scored (112), hits (125), homers (18), stolen bases (39), batting average (.440) and on-base percentage (.550)... hit .500 with eight homers, 14 stolen bases and a school-record .645 on-base percentage in his senior year...established a school record with a .549 batting average during his junior campaign, with seven home runs, 15 stolen bases and a .640 on-base percentage...also set the school standard with 50 hits...established the California career prep rushing record in football with 9,662 yards, which was also third all-time nationally...earned a number of honors as a senior in the 2005 football season including All-America selections by PrepStar, SuperPrep, Parade Magazine and EA Sports, as well as being chosen the Gatorade California Player of the Year...Cal-Hi Sports named him Mr. Football for 2005 and the state's player of the year...other honors as a senior when he rushed for 3,233 yards and scored 39 touchdowns included first-team All-State and All-CIF Southern Section, CIF Southern Section Player of the Year, CIF Division V Player of the Year, L.A. Times Player of the Year and the Mountain View Conference Player and Athlete of the Year...led his team to the 2005 Division V Southern Section title...also lettered twice and played three seasons of basketball...class valedictorian...coached in baseball by Bob Torres and Gary Parcell.
Other Amateur Baseball: Had an abbreviated 2008 summer season, as he started late due to Stanford's run to the College World Series and then left early to prepare for the 2008 Cardinal football season...played in nine games with a Maxim Yankees club that finished 30-14-1, going 10-for-30 (.333) with four runs, one double, one home run, five RBI and two steals...also spent the summer of 2007 with the Maxim club, hitting .305 (18-for-59) with two homers, nine RBI and six stolen bases in 16 games...the Yankees posted a 32-16 overall record and finished ninth at the NBC World Series...played with the 2006 Angels Elite squad...participated in the 2006 Area Code games playing with the Brewers Gray team...also played in 2005 and 2006 for Orange County Braves Scout teams.
Personal Information: Son of Todd and Lori Gerhart...is the oldest of six siblings...has two brothers, Garth and Coltin, and a set of triplet sisters (Teagan, Kelsey and Whitley)...comes from an athletic family, as his brother Garth is an offensive lineman at Arizona State...father, Todd, was an all-conference running back at Cal State Fullerton (1981-84) before playing professional football for the Denver Gold of the United States Football League (USFL) from 1985-86 and appearing in camp with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings (1986) and Houston Oilers (1987)...Todd is currently the football coach at Norco High School...spent the summer of 2007 working in electrical engineering at Maxim Integrated Products...majoring in management science and engineering.
