At Stanford: Enters his senior year poised to emerge as one of the top run-producing threats in the Pac-10, after earning 2008 honorable mention all-conference accolades...big, strong player has seen his power numbers improve each year, including 11 home runs and a .513 slugging percentage in 2008...is slated to be Stanford's starting first baseman and anchor the middle of the Cardinal lineup in 2009...helped carry the Cardinal to the 2008 College World Series, batting .303 with nine homers and 48 RBI over the club's final 37 games...an outstanding clutch performer, he is a career .322 hitter (46-for-143) with runners in scoring position...is also 10-for-14 (.714) lifetime with the bases loaded, including two grand slams...is Stanford's active career leader in doubles (24), homers (14), RBI (94), and sacrifice flies (15), while ranking second with 117 hits...owns a .264 batting average (447 at-bats) in 154 collegiate games, including 98 starts...has also stolen seven bases (in 10 attempts)...has primarily played first base while on The Farm, while also seeing action at catcher and in the outfield...is a very good defensive first baseman, and is a big target when receiving throws...also adept behind the plate, as he is a good receiver with a strong arm...was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 39th round of the 2005 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign a professional contract.
As a Junior in 2008: Honorable mention All-Pac-10 performer enjoyed his best collegiate season to date for Stanford's College World Series club, setting career highs with a .289 batting average (54-for-187), 33 runs scored, 54 hits, 11 home runs, 57 RBI, a .513 slugging percentage, a .341 on-base mark and three stolen bases...added nine doubles, one shy of his career standard...ranked fourth on the club for both homers and RBI...was arguably Stanford's top offensive threat over the second half, batting .303 (43-for-102) with eight doubles, nine homers and a club-high 48 RBI over the team's final 37 games (beginning April 14)...was an exceptional clutch hitter throughout the season, batting .360 (27-for-75) with runners in scoring position...was also 4-for-5 with the bases loaded, while hammering two of the club's three grand slams (April 21 at Santa Clara and May 11 vs. California)...logged 13 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI contests...played in 61 games overall, including 43 starts (42 at first base and one at catcher)...Stanford was an impressive 27-14-1 when he was in the lineup at first base... matched his career high with four hits on three occasions during the campaign...went 4-for-6 with two runs scored, a homer and three RBI April 16 vs. San Francisco...logged a 4-for-5 effort with a homer and two RBI May 3 at San Jose State...finished a triple shy of the cycle May 12 vs. Santa Clara, going 4-for-6 with three runs scored, one double, one homer and two RBI...posted his first career multi-homer game March 24 at Pacific, connecting on a pair of two-run shots...was scorching hot during a career-high eight-game hitting streak from April 14-25, going 16-for-35 (.457) with two home runs and 17 RBI... drove in at least one run in 11 of 13 games from May 3-24 (21 RBI total), including seven straight contests from May 11-24 (13 RBI total)...started all 11 postseason games, and ranked third on the club with 10 RBI...hit safely in eight contests, going 8-for-45 (.178) with seven runs and two stolen bases...provided excellent playoff defense with a .990 fielding percentage (1 error in 105 total chances)...delivered one of Stanford's biggest hits of the postseason in a June 1 Regional elimination game vs. UC Davis, as his two-run homer in the top of the ninth put the Cardinal ahead 5-4 en route to an 8-4 win...connected on a three-run homer to put the finishing touches on Stanford's 11-run, ninth-inning outburst against Florida State in the College World Series opener...finished with five RBI over four contests in Omaha.
As a Sophomore in 2007: Showed signs of becoming a big-time player, while finishing the season with a .273 batting average (42-for-154), one homer, 25 RBI and two stolen bases in 46 games (35 starts)...added a career-high 10 doubles, along with one triple and a club-best four sacrifice flies...posted 12 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI contests...set his career high for hits and RBI in a huge game April 10 at Nevada, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly and five RBI...matched his career high with four hits May 27 at USC, while adding a double, a homer and two RBI...drove in four runs during Stanford's 10-8 win at Texas on February 18, going 2-for-4 with a sacrifice fly...logged a pair of five-game hitting streaks, including one from May 18-27 to end the season (10-for-21, .476).
As a Freshman in 2006: Batted .198 (21-for-106) with five doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases in his first collegiate season, playing in 47 games with 20 starts...made his collegiate debut February 5 vs. Cal State Fullerton...earned his first career start February 10 vs. Kansas, and singled for his first collegiate hit...drove in a pair of runs February 11 vs. Kansas for his first RBI, while his first homer on The Farm was a solo shot March 12 at USC...had five hits in 11 at-bats during a mini three-game hitting streak from April 17-21...also had hits in three-straight games from March 4-12 and May 7-10...made his postseason debut in a June 3 Regional game vs. Texas...doubled against North Carolina State in a June 4 Regional contest for his first hit in NCAA Tournament play.
High School: Graduated in 2005 from Maize (Kan.) High School...was named the Kansas Gatorade High School Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005...selected a 2005 first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger... also tabbed the 2005 BCA/Louisville Slugger Kansas State Player of the Year ranked No. 35 on Baseball America's Class of 2005 Top 100 high school prospects...named a second-team All-American by the National High School Baseball Coaches' Association in 2004...twice named to the BCA All-District Team (2004 and 2005)...captured first-team all-state honors as a catcher in 2004 and 2005, while earning second-team recognition in 2003...three-time first-team all-league selection at catcher (2003-05)...garnered All-Metro accolades in 2005...played in the 2005 PlayStation High School All-American Game in Albuquerque, N.M....led his team to a pair of state titles (2003 and 2005), a third-place finish in 2004 and a fifth-place result in 2002...compiled a .432 (118-for-273) career batting average with 19 homers and 117 RBI, while adding 74 runs scored, 31 doubles and a .551 on-base percentage...broke several Maize career records, including marks in hits, RBI, home runs, doubles and at-bats, while ranking second all-time at the school in batting average and on-base percentage...also earned three letters in football and one in basketball...was twice named a first team all-league tight end (2002 and 2003), and was a first-team all-league defensive end in 2003...earned honorable mention All-State accolades as a tight end in 2003...played as a center in basketball during his freshman season...earned three academic letters and was a member of the National Honor Society for three years...coached in baseball by Rocky Helm.
