One of the top pitchers, if not the top pitcher, in collegiate baseball...Named a first team preseason All-American by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball...A projected first round pick in the 2000 June Amateur Draft...Falls right into the line of other Stanford greats such as Jack McDowell, Mike Mussina, Chad Hutchinson, Jeff Austin, Rick Helling and Kyle Peterson just to name a few...Begins his junior year with 207 career strikeouts, just 52 from reaching Stanford's all-time list...Reaches the low 90's with his fastball in addition to an excellent split-finger fastball and a nice curve ball...Can be an intimidating and dominating pitcher...A tremendous athlete who fields his positions well...Played summer ball for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League, and went 0-1 with a 3.91 ERA in 23.0 innings...Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 29th round of the 1997 June Amateur Draft.

As a Freshman in 1998 - Used primarily as a long reliever...Appeared in 15 games, all in relief...Went 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA and one save...Picked up first collegiate win after allowing just one unearned run and striking out five over 3.2 innings in 8-3 triumph at Santa Clara on February 24...Earned first collegiate save in 17-5 win at Arizona State on February 28 with six strikeouts in 3.1 innings...Only at bat of the season came in 17-1 win at Arizona on April 19.
