As a Sophomore in 1999 - Had a tremendous second season with the Cardinal and owned the No. 2 spot in the Stanford rotation all year long...Named NCBWA Honorable Mention All-American...Finished the season with a 10-1 record and a 4.94 ERA in 21 starts and 118.1 innings of work...Ranked second on the team in strikeouts and sixth on Stanford's all-time single season list with 135 behind new school-record holder Jason Young (178 K's)...Posted 10 or more strikeouts on four occasions...Pitched at least 6.0 innings in 13 of his 21 starts...Was 2-0 and had a 3.92 ERA in three postseason appearances with victories recorded over USC in the NCAA Super Regional on June 5 and Florida State in the College World Series on June 14...Held USC to just five hits and two runs, while striking out 12 over 8.0 innings in the 5-3 Super Regional win on June 5 to help put Stanford in the CWS...Was 3-0 with a 4.97 ERA in eight Pac-10 starts, striking out 62 batters in 50.2 innings...Ranked among Pac-10 leaders in games started (1st-T), innings pitched (2nd), strikeouts (3rd), batters struck out looking (3rd, 46) and wins (3rd-T)...Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week on April 19 after throwing a complete game four-hitter against USC on April 17...Yielded just four hits and two runs over 7.0 innings in 6-2 win at Santa Clara on February 13...In 6-5 win over Arizona State on March 6, allowed just four hits and two earned runs over 7.0 innings while striking out 10...Fired a complete game four-hitter with a career-high 14 strikeouts in 13-2 win over USC on April 17...Pitched 7.0 innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out eight against Oregon State on May 1...In final regular season outing, worked 5.0 scoreless five-hit innings in 13-2 victory over Cal Poly on May 21...In NCAA Regional action, received a no-decision against North Carolina on May 29 despite allowing just four hits and three runs over 6.0 innings...In 22.1 innings of work against USC, allowed just 15 hits and struck out 35 on his way to a 2-0 record and a 2.61 ERA.
As a Freshman in 1998 - Quickly emerged as the Cardinal's ace out of the bullpen...Named first team Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and second team Freshman All-American by the Sporting News...Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Southern Division...Went 6-0 with a team-leading six saves and a 3.81 ERA in 25 appearances, all in relief...Worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up first collegiate victory in 5-2 win over Cal State Fullerton on February 9...Allowed just four hits and one run in 5.2 innings but received a no-decision in 4-2 loss at Arizona State on March 1...Yielded just three hits and one run over 3.2 innings to earn the win in a 10-inning 4-3 victory over Washington on March 24...In his longest stint of the year, worked 7.1 innings of relief with a season-high eight strikeouts to pick up the win in 13-7 victory at California on April 13...Struck out five hitters in 2.1 innings to save 6-3 win at Arizona on April 18...Picked up a win with 4.2 innings of three-hit, one-run ball in 12-4 victory over California on April 26.
