California Defeats Stanford at Collegiate Nationals
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - On the second day of three days of competition, the California Golden Bears women's water polo team defeated Bay Area rival Stanford, Saturday, boosting their record to 30-7 and advancing to the national championship match against UCLA. The Cardinal now falls to 24-8 and moves on to play San Diego State for third place.
The Golden Bears led the Cardinal 3-1 going into the second quarter, but fell to 3-3 going into the half. In the third quarter, the Bears came back with three goals and kept the lead in the fourth quarter only slipping by two goals to win the match.
California was led by two meter junior Alisa von Hartitzsch who scored two goals in the first quarter and one in the third. Alisa now tallies 118 goals for the season so far. Sophomore goalkeeper Evi Schueller helped the 1 saves, and sophomore Kaliya Young also led the Bears with two goals.
Cal ends the season with a record of 4-2 against Stanford. The Bears will face UCLA for the championship title Sunday at 3 p.m.
