Saturday?™s contest marked the Toreros third trip to the Big Dance. San Diego is 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
- California made its sixth overall and third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to Saturday?™s win, the Golden Bears were 1-5 in NCAA Tournament play.
- The first round match-up is the first-ever meeting between the Toreros and Golden Bears.
- Cal opened the game with a 6-0 run and claimed its largest lead of the half, 20-points (42-22), on a three-pointer from Kelsey Adrian.
- Sam Child ended the five minutes of scoreless play for the Toreros with a jumper with 45.4 seconds remaining in the half. Morgan Henderson then nailed a buzzer-beater trey to end the first half trailing 15-points, 42-27.
- By the end of the first half, Cal?™s Ashley Walker already tabbed her 14th double-double of the season and 34th of her career with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
- The Golden Bears held a 20 point advantage on 11 occasions. Cal?™s largest lead of the contest, 22-points, came twice in the second half?“ first on a layup by Ashley Walker and last on a jumper by Krista Foster with 8:14 to remaining in the second half.
- Ashley Walker is the only player is Cal history with two double-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.
- Ashley Walker also moved up to the No. 2 spot in Cal?™s single season rebounds list. With her game-high 12 rebounds, Walker is now five boards shy of capturing the school single season record.
- Cal posted its second NCAA Tournament win in school history and first since 1993.
- Cal head coach Joanne Boyle won her 1st NCAA Tournament game (1-3 overall: 1-2 Cal; 0-1 Richmond)
- Cal set a school record for steals in an NCAA Tournament game with a final tally of 17.
- With the win, Cal advances to the second round and will face George Washington on Monday, March 24.
