|  | << Back to Postseason Central Tournament Notes March 22, 2008 Stanford University vs. Cleveland State Final Score: Stanford 85, Cleveland State 47 - Cleveland State made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The Vikings earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the Horizon League Championship.
- Stanford made its 21st consecutive and 22nd overall NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday. The Cardinal earned an automatic big to the tournament by winning the Pac-10 Tournament title.
- Cleveland State and Stanford have met just one time with the Cardinal claiming a 95-69 win over the Vikings in the 1986-87 season opener. The game was played on neutral ground at the UNLV Tournament.
- Jayne Appel scored 29 of Stanford?™s 45 first half points and was the only player in the game to have reached double-figures by the end of the first half. The Cardinal compiled an early 13-0 run that was fueled by 12 points from Appel. She also had a half-best nine rebounds.
- Stanford held Cleveland State scoreless for just under six minutes until a jumper by Natalie Miller broke the silence for the Vikings and brought them into double-digits, 30-10.
- Jayne Appel made the first basket of the second half and with those two points, she surpassed her career-high which was 30 points. Appel enters the second round of the NCAA Tournament with 33 points.
- Jayne Appel also tied her personal best 14 field goals and registered her 10th double-double with 33 points and 12 rebounds.
- Candice Wiggins registered her 18th consecutive double-figure scoring game with 13 points.
- With the win, Stanford advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the eighth consecutive year and the 18th time in its 21 appearances. The Cardinal will face the winner of the UTEP/Western Kentucky contest. The Cardinal improved to 31-3 overall.
- The Cardinal remains undefeated at home in the 2007-08 season with a 14-0 record and earns its 300th home win (300-32) under the direction of Tara VanDerveer.
- The Cardinal also improved to 21-4 at home in the NCAA Tournament.?
- With the loss, Cleveland State ends the 2007-08 season with a 19-14 overall record.
