California vs George Washington Post Game Quotes

California
Head Coach Joanne Boyle
(Opening Statement) "I’m just so proud of my team. I told them in the locker room that this game does not define our season. I’m just disappointed in the outcome because we deserved the opportunity to move forward and that didn’t happen tonight. I want to give credit to GW for just a great game."
(On how the team followed the game plan): "We had to look to get outside shots, which I think we did. In the second half, they switched it up. We tried to get inside-outside touches and we just didn’t knock down as many outside shots. Balls were rolling around the rim. I don’t think there was anything we didn’t expect, I should say."
(On how she would rate the team in terms of physicality): "I think they were a very physical team. There were a lot of teams we played this year that were physical from the Pac-10."
(On the blizzard defense): "It’s a great defense. They get in the passing lanes and get touches on the balls. You have to knock down shots against it. I felt like we did that more so in the first half. Then we tried to get it under the basket in the second half and sometimes got fouled and went to the free throw line."
(On what you told the team in the locker room): "I told them how proud I was and that things happen for a reason and I don’t know why the outcome is the way it is. We’d like to be able to control the game as coaches and players. It’s sad for Krista Foster because its her last game with us. This doesn’t define our season. We’ve changed Cal basketball in a very short period of time, gotten a community involved. There’s been a lot of great things that have happened for us this year. As hard as it is to hear it right now because it just hurts a lot is that this game doesn’t define our season. I don’t want them to think that this game defines our season. But that’s hard to comprehend right now."
Devanei Hampton:
(On anything catching her by surprise): "No. They double and triple teamed me but I knew just to kick it back to my guards, and they hit their shots. That’s all that you can ask from your guards. There was nothing unexpected. I would have been surprised if they didn’t double or triple team me."
